Esme Glauert

Dr Esmé Glauert has extensive experience of early years and primary education through her previous work as a teacher and school adviser in London, her current roles as a teacher educator supporting both beginning and experienced teachers on teacher education, Masters and Doctoral programmes at UCL Institute of Education, and through national and international consultancy. Her research interests are concerned with young children’s investigations and ways of explaining in science, developing research and teaching approaches sensitive to the capabilities of young children, and the processes of teacher professional development. Most recently she has undertaken research and curriculum development concerned with fostering inquiry and creativity in early years science through two EU funded projects (Creative little Scientists 2011 – 2014 and Creativity in Early Years Science 2014-2017), working in collaboration with researchers, teacher educators and teachers across nine EU countries. She was one of the London based tutors for the EEF funded effectiveness trial (2016-2018) of the training materials produced by the Thinking, Doing, Talking Science Project focused on the design of cognitively challenging, practical and interactive primary science lessons. In collaboration with the London Centre for Leadership in Learning, she is also involved in the development of research learning communities, involving partnerships between school teachers and lecturers at UCL IoE, engaging with and in research to enhance teaching and children’s learning in primary science.
